Introduction of SWIRSKI-MITE PLUS sachet
Koppert Biological Systems has developed a new breeding method that makes it possible to produce large quantities of Amblyseius swirskii predatory mites. In addition, Koppert has discovered a technique to develop a slow release sachet, with the product name SWIRSKI-MITE PLUS. A patent has been applied for on both the breeding technique and the sachet.
SWIRSKI-MITE PLUS produces a large quantity of predatory mites over 6 weeks. By having available many predatory mites in the first weeks, the predatory mite will quickly build up a population, which controls thrips and whitefly very effective.
Results with Amblyseius swirskii are positive in many crops. The expectation is that SWIRSKI-MITE PLUS will mean a breakthrough in further development of integrated crop protection for a number of new crops.
The sachets are an improvement for situations in which it is important that many new predatory mites will be released in the crop regularly. This is of importance in crops where no alternative food is available, like cucumber, rose, chrysanthemums and pot plants. In these crops the pest pressure must stay on a low level. In vegetable crops like sweet pepper and egg plants the sachets also provide extra value.
