Bag with 2 delta traps, 8 sticky inserts and 2 suspension hooks

To be ordered separately: sachets with 4 pheromone capsules with species-specific sex pheromone (see text on sachet)

Following pheromones are available for moths:

• Lacanobia oleracea
• Autographa gamma
• Chrysodeixis chalcites
• Spodoptera exigua
• Clepsis spectrana
• Cacoecimorpha pronubana
• Mamestra brassicae
• Duponchelia fovealis

and for mealybug:

• Planococcus citri

 

Use

To monitor butterflies/moths or male alate mealybugs inside or outside the greenhouse.

 

Quantity to be used

• 2 traps per hectare for each expected type of butterflies/moths
• for mealybug use 1 trap per 500 - 1000 m²

 

Procedure

Mount the desired number of pheromone traps as described under 'Assembly'. Hang the traps approx. 10 cm above the crop, in places that allow easy regular inspection (e.g. along the concrete path). Distribute the traps as evenly as possible over the area, in order to avoid interference.

 

Assembly

Fold the delta trap into a triangle. Place a sticky insert on the bottom of the trap, the glued side up. Fold both side edges at the base of the triangle inwards. Slide the metal suspension hook at the top of the delta trap. Take the sachets with the necessary pheromone capsules (rubber capsule or plastic tube) from the cold store. Open the sachet, and put the capsule (in the middle) on the sticky insert. Never touch the capsule itself because the pheromone can end up at other places in the greenhouse, for example through hand contact. Put the capsule on the sticky insert. Hang the trap in the appropriate place.

 

IMPORTANT:

If the pheromone capsules are of the type 'plastic tube': always keep the lid of the plastic tube closed! The pheromone will slowly release through the diffuse plastic tube.

Storage and handling

• unused pheromone capsules should preferably be kept in a freezer (-18°C/-65°F), if not possible, below 4°C/40°F
• the bag containing the delta traps etc. requires no special storage conditions
• the production date is printed on the sachets. If stored frozen, capsules can be used till maximum 2 years after the date on the sachet, if stored at room temperature till 1 year after production date.

 

Remarks

• on the outside of the delta trap, record your own serial number and the type of pheromone it contains
• wash your hands thoroughly with water and soap between mounting pheromone traps for different butterfly/moth species to avoid that pheromones mix up in the same pheromone trap
• during the first days after applying a new pheromone capsule it may happen that more moths are caught than usual. This is due to a short peak in the emission of pheromone of the new capsule
• pheromone capsules are effective for 6 weeks after they have been hung inside the (delta) trap. Replace the capsule after 6 weeks, but only with capsules containing the same type of pheromone

 

Mode of action

The capsule releases the smell of a species-specific sex pheromone. This smell lures adult males of the relevant butterfly/moth species into the trap. They stick to the sticky insert inside the trap, making it easy for you to observe, count and identify them.

The introduction rates of this product should be adjusted to the mode of action of the product and the results that can be expected in the crop where the product is applied. Your local Koppert consultant or recognized distributor will be able to advise you further.
