Introduction

  • release mummies near infested plants, as Aphelinus abdominalis is not very mobile
  • spread material on rockwool slabs or in application boxes (DIBOX)
  • make sure the material remains at its introduction site for a few days

Storage and handling

  • storage after receipt: 1-2 days
  • storage temperature: 8-10°C/47-50°F
  • in the dark

Appearance

Adults: size 2.5-3 mm, short legs, short antennae, black thorax, yellow abdomen

Other stages: develop inside host

Mode of action

Female adult parasitic wasp parasitizes the aphid. Host feeding also takes place.

Visual effect

Parasitized aphid hardens into a leathery black coloured mummy. The adult parasitic wasp emerges through a hole with a jagged edge at the rear of the mummy. The first mummies can be seen in the crop a minimum of 2 weeks after the first introduction.
