Heterorhabditis bacteriophora
Unit of packaging
Heterorhabditis bacteriophora (entomopathogenic nematode)
Pack- size: 2 bags in a box
Contains: 2 x 250 million larvae (third stage) in inert carrying carrier material

Application and dose
- aerate the turf before applying TERRANEM by means of vertidraining, pricking or slitting
- on the evening before applying TERRANEM, pre-sprinkle the soil surface (5-10 mm)
- spray a wetting agent on the evening before applying TERRANEM
- keep the soil surface moist after the first water treatment has taken place
- if possible, use a watering can or sprinkler to administer 5 mm water to the turf 1 to 2 hours before applying TERRANEM
- spray over a moist soil surface (for example after a rain shower or after using the sprinkler)
- use a watering can, sprinkler system, backpack spray unit or vehicle-mounted spray unit
- remove all filters to avoid blockages. Spray nozzle opening 0.5 mm (500 microns)
- pressure: max. 12 bar
- you should preferably spray during cloudy weather conditions or at the beginning or end of the day
- avoid applying the nematodes in direct sunlight
- mix continuously in order to prevent nematodes sinking to the bottom
- water the turf after application (at least 2-5 litres per m²) in order to wash the nematodes into the soil
- keep soil moist for the first two weeks after application
Environmental conditions
- the moisture content of the soil must be high
- optimum soil temperature: between 14 and 33°C
Storage and handling
- shelf life: see package for expiry date
- storage temperature: 2-6°C
- in a dark place
Appearance
Larvae (third stage): size 0.6 mm long
Other stages: develop inside host
Mode of action
After application, the nematodes actively search for grubs and penetrate them. The nematodes feed on the contents of the grubs, excreting specific bacteria from their digestive tracts as they do so. These bacteria convert host tissue into products that the nematodes can easily ingest. The grubs die within a few days.
Visible effects
Affected grubs turn from white-beige to red-brown and become slimy, as a result of which they are often difficult to find. The first grubs may die within 2-4 days of application. Check affected areas just before and within two weeks following application. During that period, the nematodes will have reproduced and killed a greater percentage of grubs. It is possible to have Koppert carry out an analysis on grub samples. Consult the determination form for further information.
