General information

Vidi Funda is a natural and organic soil improver based on raw materials. The product contains a unique combination of amino-acids which support the development of a diverse soil population of beneficial microbes, especially fungi. By improving the overall soil health, as well as supplying plant-based organic nutrients, research and commercial applications have shown an increase in available nitrogen from mineralization. Following mineralization, the plant can easily absorb the nutrients from the Vidi Funda, which reduces leaching.

When to use Vidi Funda?

  • Improve the availability of nutrients through mineralization
  • Increase soil fungi-bacteria and C:N ratios
  • Establish and maintain a raised biomass weight of organisms within the substrate
  • Re-build the soil life and vitality after destructive applications
  • Promoting plant growth through rhizosphere environment, soil buffering capacity and the ability to withstand stress

How does Vidi Funda work?

The pellets are scattered, and ideally worked into the growing medium. Over time, with the interaction of temperature, moisture, air and the existing microbial population, the pellets will slowly break-down and release the amino-acids into the surrounding soil. It is this gradual decomposition that supports and develops the soil microbial population and the increased bio-availability of nutrients.

Many alternative soil amendments will either release nutrients rapidly or lock them up. This can lead to flushing and varying results. Vidi Funda is applied to restore and maintain the soil’s natural balance, so that it can support efficient and resilient growth.

Application methods

Incorporating into growing medium/potting compost:
  • Mix uniformly throughout the growing medium. This can be done on farm or by a supplier
  • Once incorporated into the compost, use within 3-4 weeks (sooner if compost is wet), since the biological process will have begun
  • Minimum tray/plug size: 4 x 4 x 4cm
  • Adjust fertiliser inputs to allow for nutrients supplied from the Vidi Funda
  • Avoid anaerobic conditions
Incorporated into or top-dressing soil
  • Scatter evenly across the soil surface
  • If possible, work into the top layer to promote the biological decomposition process
  • If the soil is to be covered with film, avoid anaerobic conditions by incorporating into soil
  • Adjust fertiliser inputs to allow for nutrients supplied from the Vidi Funda
  • Ensure not in direct contact with soft, green plant tissue, since this can lead to scorch
Top Dressing - pots
  • Ensure direct contact with growing medium to allow natural bioactivity to commence
  • Do not apply directly under the drippers since this will lead to the pellets breaking down quickly leading to reduced benefit and anaerobic conditions
  • Ensure not in direct contact with soft, green plant tissue, since this can lead to scorch
  • Minimum tray/plug size: 4 x 4 x 4cm
  • Avoid anaerobic conditions
  • Adjust fertiliser inputs to allow for nutrients supplied from the Vidi Funda

Growth media containing Vidi Funda may develop fungal growth.  Under aerobic conditions this is a sign that the substrate biology is active and becoming more resilient.  This will disappear as the pellets break-down.

The natural raw materials in Vidi Funda are suitable for animal and human consumption and do not contain any heavy metals.

Results

Research at Wageningen University has shown that the amount of available nitrogen (N) in Vidi Funda is 50-100% more than that found in animal-based fertilizers such as bone meal, chicken pellets, horn meal, blood meal, and other organic fertilizers. Vidi Funda is also effective for longer as the nutrients are released over a longer period of time.
Comparative research has shown that Vidi Funda restores the biological balance in the soil and supports the development of disease-suppressing fungi. It demonstrated that using Vidi Funda resulted in twice as many fungi/bacteria compared to compost or stable manure, and three times as many as the control.
The biomass was also measured during this test. The use of Vidi Funda doubled the number of microorganisms compared to those in the untreated control. In stable manure the number of bacteria increased, yet in Vidi Funda the number of fungi increased.
