This botanical family of perennial trees, climbers, shrubs, and acaules are commonly known as palm trees. About 2600 species of Arecaceae are known, growing in tropical and subtropical climates. The red palm mite (Raoiella indica), the palm seed beetle (Caryobruchus gleditsiae) and the red palm weevil (Rhynchophorus ferrugineus) are common pests in a variety of palm species.
