In control of aphids and thrips: Koppert showcases biological crop protection solutions at Bejo Open Days 2025

Looking for effective solutions to control thrips in leek, onion and cabbage, aphids in lettuce and spider mites in celeriac? Visit us at the Bejo Open Days in Warmenhuizen, The Netherlands, from Tuesday, September 23rd to Friday, September 26th. We’ll be happy to show you our latest innovations in biological crop protection.

Thrips control in leek, onion and cabbage

Hotter summers are increasing thrips pressure in leek, onion, and cabbage. At the same time, the range of available chemical insecticides continues to decline, making thrips control increasingly challenging for growers. The Orius predatory bug, a natural predator of thrips, is used in combination with banker plants, Lobularia, and is a great alternative to control thrips in your crop.
At the extensive demofield at the Bejo Open Days we are happy to showcase this effective solution.

Effective bumblebee pollination increases yield in zucchini

Bumblebees are an indispensable ally for growers worldwide, offering a reliable and efficient pollination solution that enhances crop yields and overall quality. Their carefully managed deployment ensures the optimal pollination required for increased fruit set and enhanced crop uniformity, ultimately driving profits. Bumblebees work diligently even in unfavourable weather conditions. Our bumblebee hives are showcased in the zucchini demo field. Come see for yourself how natural pollination translates into improved quality and increased yields.

Aphid control with Chrysopa in lettuce

With upcoming chemical bans, aphids are becoming an increasing concern for growers. A reliable biological crop protection solution is the lacewing larva (Chrysopa), a voracious predator of aphids. These pierce their prey and suck out body fluids, effectively reducing aphid populations. Lacewings are primarily active at night and remain effective even at lower temperatures, making them a valuable tool throughout the growing season.

See this natural pest control in action at our demo field and discover how lacewings can help you manage aphids.

Spider mite control with spical-plus in celeriac

Spider mites are pests that present a threat to many crops, including celeriac. Despite their small size, they can cause severe damage very rapidly due to their great reproductive capacity. With over 1,200 species worldwide, many are common crop pests. The two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae, is by far the most important species in many outdoor crops.

Spical-Plus is a predatory mite helps growers control spider mites in celeriac. These predatory mites multiply in a sachet and disperse gradually into the crop over several weeks, piercing prey with their sucking mouthparts and feeding on them. Visit the demo field to see this trial in action and discover how Spical-Plus works in practice.
