Pinus spp.

Pine trees

About

Pines fall under the genus Pinus - the sole genus in the subfamily Pinoideae. Pine trees are evergreen, coniferous and resinous trees that reach heights of up to 80 metres. Certain Lepidoptera (butterfly and moth) species and the pine sawfly eat pine needles. Pines favour acid or calcareous soils and require good drainage, preferring sandy soils.
